Canadian Continental Pro outfit SpiderTech finds itself well-placed in the UCI “fictitious” pre-season assessment for the America Tour. The rankings are based on the finishes of each team’s riders in the previous season and will be used to determine who gets automatic invitations to certain races.
SpiderTech is ranked ninth in the America Tour category out of 40 teams. In the Europe Tour, where Cap-Rouge, Quebec’s David Veilleux’s Europcar squad is considered to be the fifth strongest, SpiderTech is 48th out of 119 teams.
The additions of team co-founder Steve Bauer’s old Motorola teammate Michael Carter as sports director, along with riders Caleb Fairly, Raymond Künzli and Bjorn Selander, have Bauer expecting even more from the team after it’s successful 2011 debut. Right now the team is in training camp before tackling its first race of the season, the Tour Méditerranéen in France from February 9-12.
