The Tour de Delta, the first event of BC Superweek, got underway Friday with the MK Delta Criterium, a 1.2-km circuit around the North Delta Social Heart area. The men completed 50 laps while the women faced 40.

Canadians took the top two spots in the women’s race. Lex Albrecht of Now and Norvartis for MS won in a time of 53:36.40, the same time as runner-up Denise Ramsden (Optum presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies). American Elle Anderson of Vanderkitten rounded out the podium, with Ramsden’s compatriot and teammate Leah Kirchman finishing just outside the top three.

Ryan Anderson, one spot off the podium last year, came second this time in the men’s race. Also representing Optum presented by Kelly Benefit Stratgies, Anderson came one second behind winner Cuban Luis Amaran of Jamis Hagens Berman. Amaran completed the 50 laps in 1:03.52. Tim Gebauren of the German National Team was third.

Saturday, the fast action continues with the Tour de Delta’s second short lap race, the Brenco Crit in Ladner, before Sunday’s White Spot Delta Road Race.
