When Specialized debuted its new Tarmac in early May, the company mentioned that a version of its race machine built in collaboration with McLaren was in the works. On Wednesday, Specialized released details on the bike, S-Works McLaren Tarmac, that was developed with the high-performance automotive manufacturer. Only 250 of these bikes will be made, and prospective riders have only the month of July to place their orders.

Canadian Christian Meier could still race the Tour de France despite not being named to the squad earlier this week. Australian Michael Matthews, who wore the pink jersey for the first week of the Giro d’Italia earlier this year, was injured in a training crash Tuesday.

The heat has started to take its toll on riders at the BC Bike Race. The medical tent was busy treating dehydration, which affected many riders. An extra feed zone was added for Day 4 to try to combat the intense need for extra fluids. The stage’s climbing was more than 1,400 m and mainly on exposed hydro corridors. I really like how the race uses these monstrous swaths of land in the race, as they are the only stretches where you have unimpeded views of riders minutes ahead and behind.
