I’ve got an ‘09 Trek Madone 6.5 with full Dura Ace 7900. The wheelset is the Bontrager Race X-Lite aluminum clinchers.  I’m considering upgrading to a carbon clincher wheelset, more as a treat to be honest then a need.

I’d appreciate any opinions, comments, experiences that anyone may have. I am a heavier rider, of average conditioning. I do the 70 - 120 km group ride every weekend and get out a couple of evenings through the week. I live in Vancouver so do get in some pretty good climbs which is where I really need the help.

Anyway, I’d appreciate anything anyone has to say.

The new Shimano RS 80s combine carbon and aluminum at an affordable price. Ultegra quality. Good reviews but if you look at the cross section it’s mostly aluminum with a whiff of carbon. Google them and you should find pictures.

Zipp 404s or Mavic Cosmic Carbones would be the “creme de la creme” and I imagine a Dura Ace set would be somewhere in between.
