Gear and more at Sea Otter Canada

Let us take you inside the big cycling festival

Herman the Sheep

On Friday, Sea Otter Canada got underway. The big cycling celebration features gear and events in Blue Mountain, Ont., on shores of Georgian Bay. Here’s a look at what’s going on.

The proud Herman the Sheep stands watch at the Trek Bicycles Canada booth. He seems to be able to rock merino wool in 30 C heat. Hot sheep.

The Trek Powerfly LT 7 with third-generation Bosch drive unit. This puppy can give you about 70 Nm of torque to help you up technical trails. There are a few such routes here at Blue Mountain.

Trek’s “Return to Earth” VR setup. You strap on the glasses and hold the handlebars provided. You’re taken on a Rampage-like rip, so some do need the bars for balance.

Legendary track cyclist Curt Harnett poses with his Cannondale SystemSix aero road bike (and Canadian Cycling Magazine editor Matthew Pioro). Harnett recently got back from a 1,001 km ride from Lake Louise to Whistler in support of B2Ten, which helps out Canadian athletes.

Spotted! The new Shimano GRX groupset. Here’s a crankset with a whopping jump from 30-tooth to 46-tooth. The new derailleur has that covered.

Top-tube bag is not just for triathletes anymore. It’s part of the PRO Discover line. There’s also a handlebar bag, frame bag and seat bag for all your bikepacking needs.

Busy, busy at the Shimano trailer. Bikes are getting prepped for the Norco Canadian Enduro event on Sunday, as well as the Air DH, Dual Slalom and XC 3-HR.

A Fara Cycling F|Disc with SRAM eTap AXS sits at the Blacksmith Cycles booth.

More to come.
