Contour, one of the pioneers of point-of-view shooting with more than a few critical patents, announced that it’s joining forces with iON Cameras, blending the trailblazing status of the former with the latter’s engineering and manufacturing eminence. Under the agreement in principle, the two brands will co-exist, with a full range of wearable cameras planned as a result. Focusing on the simplicity of cloud storage in tandem with live streaming, sharing and editing as key approaches to the technology, the joint organization plans to continue investing in the innovation of camera hardware, with Contour continuing its focus on products for the upper scale of the market.

As a result of the partnership, the product line will roll out a series of high-end professional-quality cameras, as well as lifestyle cameras and action/adventure cameras—mainstays of the POV scene when it comes to cycling. In addition, tactical and police cameras, dash cams, and home security solutions are also among the planned line of products.

“Contour brings a tradition of innovation and cutting-edge technology to the unbeatable manufacturing capabilities of iON,” said James Harrison, Contour’s CEO. “Now we will be able to bring great innovations to the market much more quickly. The combination of iON and Contour creates a camera company ready for the future of video capture and live streaming.”

Giovanni Tomaselli, iON’s founder and CEO, is equally optimistic about the merger. “Our goal is to offer the widest array of easy-to-use, connected cameras in the market,” he said. “We’ll now have resources to continue innovating in key categories while expanding our global presence.”

As part of the overall re-organizing, Tomaselli will serve as the new company’s CEO, while Harrison will become its president.
