Cannondale have added two e-mountain bikes to their lineup with the Moterra and Moterra LT. Equipped with a 250 w Bosch Performance CX motor, Cannondale have taken design cues from their mountain bike lineup and adapted ebike technology to allow riders to go longer, further and faster.
“We wanted to create an e-mountain bike that delivers the same hardcore, high-performance ride that is expected of a Cannondale mountain bike. We started with our fundamental dual suspension design principles and adapted the e-technology to fit,” said Scott Rittschof, senior vice president of global marketing and product development at Cycling Sports Group. “The result is a dual-suspension e-mountain bike that can rip harder than any other ebike on the planet.”
The bike is the result of Cannondale’s experience building high-performance mountain bikes like the Habit, Jekyll and Scalpel-Si. Taking the platform from their mountain bikes, Cannondale say they have adapted the latest e-technology to enhance the riders experience on this new platform.
Allowing riders to experience smooth, supple suspension action with no pedal bobbing , Cannondale use a custom Si motor mount and Asymmetric Integration chainring to move the motor to the optimal position. The short chainstays add in giving the Moterras nimble and agile handling on the trail. Cannondale says that this gives the Moterras better handling than other ebikes. Cannondale protect the motor and battery from being damaged from striking rocks with a rubber guard and skid plates. The battery has on board charging capabilities. The Moterras and Moterras LT use Cannondale’s SmartForm C1 Alloy construction with a carbon shock link.
The Moterra LT is an aggressive all-mountain/enduro platform with 160 mm of travel front and rear coming in two models, and is equipped with 27.5 x 2.35 tires. The Moterra is an all-round trail platform with 130 mm of travel with 27.5 wheels and is available in three models.
