Cold-weather cycling clothing 10 to 5 C

As the temperature drops, choosing the right cold-weather cycling clothing for your ride can be tricky. Should you go with arm warmers? Or is it cold enough for long sleeves? Of course, it comes down to how strongly you’re affected by the cold. To give you some guidance when you get ready for your ride, here’s some clothing that works for a variety of conditions when the temperature ranges from 10 to 5 C. Mix and match to find what works for you to keep riding for as long as possible. Do you need clothing for a colder temperature range? Here are options for 5 to 0 C, 0 to -5 C and -5 to -10 C.

Staying comfortable at this temperature range can just be a matter of adding to your summer kit (Pearl Izumi Elite Ltd jersey 1 , $145, pearlizumi.com). The Castelli Flanders Wind SS 2 ($89, mec.ca/castelli) will give you some protection from the wind. Get even more protection by adding the Biemme B-Fluo vest 3 ($79, biemmeamerica.com), which also keeps you visible as you ride on days with dwindling daylight hours. The Pearl Izumi Shine wind mitt 4 ($37, pearlizumi.com) gives you options for your fingers. For an extra bit of warmth on your legs, put on Assos’s new T.tiburu_s7 5 ($319, assos.com) lined with light checkered fleece. If the ventilation on our road shoes is letting in too much air for your toes, stop the flow with some toe covers (Bontrager RXL Windshell toe covers 6 , $24, bontrager.com). Cover your arms and legs with Giant’s 3D arm warmers 7 and 3D knee warmers 8 ($35 and $40, giant-bicycles.com). Slip them off after you warm up and the fall sun gets higher in the sky. But, if the rain starts to come down, put on a jacket (Giant Rev Pro rain jacket 9 , $280, giant-bicycles.com) made with a waterproof and breathable fabric.
