Shimano Explorer

Shimano has release its 2017 Explore line of products, which are geared to the commuter and cyclo-tourer. The items—including jackets, shirts, shoes and pedals—mix function and fashion for a wide range of cycling adventures.

Transit apparel

The clothes in the Transit line are perfect for commutes. You’ll event look sharp off the bike. Many of the products feature what Shimano calls discrete reflectivity technology, elements that will bounce the light back at motorists with out detracting from the overall look of the clothing piece. Also, the clothing has a Silvadur antibacterial treatment. The idea is that the clothing looks funky while don’t arrive at your destination smelling funky.

SPD shoes that are also good for walking

The stand out shoes are the RT4/RT4W. You might even be able to get away with wearing these lace-up SPD shoes to the board meeting. The MT5 is the most hiking-like shoe in the line, but not as all terrain as Shimano XM9 or XM7 shoes.

Explorer pedals

Shimano continues to develop its range of “half-and-half” pedals. The PD-T8000, which draws heavily from the PD-T780, now has pins for extra grip on its flat side. On the other side, you can click in with your SPD shoe. The PD-T421 is the latest platform in the Click’r line of pedals, with their light spring action for easier entry and release.

Packs

The 23-l Tokyo pack now has a smaller cousin: the 17-l version. The new Hotaka, in 20 l or 26 l, lets you take what you need out on the trails.
