While some parts of Canada are still covered in ice and snow, we’re beginning to get some warmer days which means outdoor riding is on the horizon. Here are three key items from Castelli we love for staying warm on the bike and enjoying all that late winter/early spring riding has to offer.
Constructed from Castelli’s Thermoflex and Thermoflex Core Duo fabric, these top-of-the-line lightweight tights (offered in men’s and women’s versions and also as a bib) provide better insulation and wicking than traditional fabrics. The Progetto X2 chamois is the same that you’ll find in Castelli’s shorts, and is one of the most comfortable we’ve ever tested. The two-layer Core Duo construction effectively traps air in a hollow-core layer while the more basic Thermoflex, used on the areas of the tights less exposed to wind, provide excellent breathability. They’re the perfect layer for all your cold rides.
Perfetto long sleeve
Formerly called the Gabba Long Sleeve, the Perfetto’s new name reflects the level of “perfection” Castelli has aimed for in this jacket. Our verdict? It’s about as good as it gets. An improved water-repellent finish makes this jacket completely waterproof, which surprised us at first considering how soft and comfortably it fits. The Gore Windstopper X-Lite Plus fabric also offers complete wind protection while staying incredibly lightweight. The Perfetto Long Sleeve is one of the most adaptable cycling garments we’ve found — it works well in fall, winter and spring as part of a layered system. The full-length YKK Vislon zipper with wind flap and range of pockets with laser drain holes are additional features we’ve believe make this jacket such a great piece.

A snug fitting glove with adjustability to keep out cold air and the wet, the Castelli Boa Glove uses the dials that are increasingly popular on shoes to keep your hands protected from the elements. The gloves are made from OutDry waterproof fabric and are fleece lined. If your hands are prone to get cold and you want to ride in all conditions, these gloves could be the perfect solution.
