A recap of the snow-riding, cold-braving, frost-festooned fun of Winter Bike to Work Day, social media-style

Take a look at how riders across Canada marked Winter Bike to Work Day the way they do best.

For some of us, biking in extreme cold can bring to mind fantasies about ticker-tape parades for our herosim and hushed, reverent whispers regarding just how brave and hardy and bold we are, setting out on two wheels where those wearing ten layers might fear to tread. Of course, that never really happens.

The closest thing happens on Winter Bike to Work Day—a day for honouring the most weather-defiant winter cycling warriors and the cities they call home.

This year, Winter Bike to Work Day happened on Friday, Feb. 12, bringing riders out on to the streets in numbers that may have surprised shivering, teeth-chattering observers. Pedaling past on the streets and thoroughfares of cities around the world, riders made their morning commutes—whether to work or, for the first time this year, school—journeys of legendary resilience, the same as many of them do any other day of the year. On Winter Bike to Work Day, though, that resilience was celebrated.
