Bike to Work activities around Canada

Cities across the country are hosting bike to work events throughout the spring and summer 2016.

As welcoming and warm spring weather begins to reach Canadians in cities across the country, cycling organisations are encouraging people to change their commuting habits and try biking to work.

Here are some of the cycling to work day activities taking place in Canadian cities in 2016:

Vélo Québec is encouraging people to bike to work May 30 to June 3 with a host of activities on the menu. June 1 is Bike-to-Work-Day in Montreal and their will bebBicycle–friendly entertainment with Les Ravitailleurs, a free basic tune-up and a downtown picnic.

In Toronto, Bike Month begins on  Monday, May 30 with Bike to Work Day and continues until the end of June. Hundreds of events are on schedule. Participants of Bike to Work Day can enter a raffle to be eligible to win a Norco Indie 4 commuter bicycle. Check out the Bike Month website for more details.

In Ottawa, participants are encouraged to sign up to bike to work at biketoworkottawa.ca/en

Bike Week is Halifax takes place from June 3 to 12. On June 10 there is a MEC free pancake breakfast at two locations from 7:30-9am.

On the morning of June 3, Windsor celebrates Bike to Work Day with a free breakfast. The ride leave at 7:15am from Optimist Memorial Park.

In Calgary, Bike to Work Day has already passed taking place on May 6 with organisers saying the tenth anniversary was the biggest and best it has ever been.

Victoria is having it’s 22nd annual Bike to Work Week from May 30 to June 5. Urban bike skill courses are on offer which began on April 9 and registration is now open to those who want to participate.

HUB Cycling is encouraging Vancouver residents to get out and bike to work from May 30 to June 5. For those who register there are daily bike draws, over 70 celebration stations across the city and more.

Winnipeg will have it’s ninth annual Bike to Work Day on June 24. There will be free refreshments at 50 pit stops across the city as you ride to work. Bike Week Winnipeg takes place from June 18 to 24  and the group encourages residents of the city to get out and cycle. On May 28 from 10 am to 4 pm the MEC Bike Fest takes place, an opportunity to connect with the local bicycle community in Winnipeg. From June 5 to 11 the annual Commuter Challenge also takes place, an opportunity to explore greener transportation options with participants entered to win prizes.
