Peter Sagan is no stranger to winning and at the post-race press conference the world champion was pre-occupied making plans after he answered questions from a throng of journalists from around the world. As Greg Van Avermaet was questioned on his second-place performance, Guillaume Boivin the races top Canadian and Sagan were busy scheduling a date for Sunday night following the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal which should wrap up around 4-4:30pm EDT. Sagan was so eager to make the plans he couldn’t wait until after the press conference to speak with Boivin.

On Sunday, Sagan will look to double up on his Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec win in a race he won in 2013 but we can’t blame the Slokavian for getting excited to take in a hockey game with Team North American and Team Europe set to contest a match at Montreal’s Bell Center on Sunday, September 11th at 6pm.

When it came time for Boivin to answer questions he opened with a quick word on what the two were discussing behind Van Avermaet’s back saying in his native French, “we are planning to go to the World Cup in Montreal, that’s what we’ve been discussing.” The answer prompted a laugh from the assembled crowd. The two know each other from their time riding together with Cannondale in 2013 and 2014 where Boivin often rode in support of the young phenom who until this season was chasing a monument win.

Boivin followed Sagan’s strategy in Quebec as well. “I opted for the same strategy as Peter Sagan to try and save strength for the finale. I had a slight problem in the last bump and my feet slid off the pedal but I fought hard and I’m happy with my race. It’s a morale booster to see that with so little training I managed to do well and that the ten days of work I did paid off.”

Boivin injured his knee in training but his recovery was swift and his result likely solidifies his chances of traveling to Qatar for the world championships with Canada. “I gave it 110 per cent and I’m happy with the result. Nobody can be surprised by seeing Peter Sagan win here. I rode to years with him with Cannondale and we have seen very few guys like this in cycling. I was in his team when he won in Montréal. We share great memories together.”

The two will surely make more memories together following the race on Sunday.
