Canada Cup resumes with Mont Tremblant XC and DH opener

Over long Victoria day weekend, the first round of the Canada Cup downhill series kicked off while the second round of the cross-country Canada Cup took place in Mont Tremblant, Que.

With the first round of the cross country World Cup taking place in the Czech Republic, athletes competed for the prizes on the newly revised Tremblant course which included more fire roads but still featured slippery trails thanks to the wet spring.

Evan Guthrie (Team Solo Evan) took the win in the elite men’s category crossing the line a minute before American Sandy Floren (Bear Development Team) who was 38 seconds further ahead of Raphael Auclair (Pivot Cycle-OTE). The win puts Guthrie in the series lead.

In the women’s field, B.C. rider Jane Rossworn narrowly took the win ahead of fellow B.C. native Emily Unterberger and in third was Frederique Trudel (Pivot Cycles-OTE) who was over a minute back on the pair.

In the junior women’s category Leya Masson (CC Mont-Saint-Anne) won ahead of Tereza Saskova of the Czech Republic (Ceska Sporitelna Specialized Junior MTB team) and Sidney McGill (Focus CX Racing). In the junior men’s race it was Holden Jones (Cycling BC) who took the win ahead of American Gaelen Kilburn (Hot Tubes Junior Racing) and Tyler Clark (KMS Cycling).
