Crankworx adds French event to World Tour calendar

Giant Slalom competition Crankworx Whistler

The popular week-long mountain biking festival Crankwork announced on that it is adding another event to the Crankworx World Tour, a stop in Les Gets, France. The French Alps resort has hosted UCI downhill mountain bike World Cups, most recently in 2003 and the World Championships in 2004.

Les Gets joins Rotorua, New Zealand and Whistler, BC, where it all began in 2004, as the stops on the World Tour. New Zealand kicks off the season from March 9-13, the French festival is June 15-19 and the Whistler crown jewel takes place August 12-21. Rotorua joined the party last year.

For competitors, the 2016 season sees a return to the four series title race format, with slopestyle, downhill, pump track and speed and style competitions.

There will be plenty of opportunities for mountain bikers to hit the 95-km of trails, utilize the three lifts and the participate in events like Kidworx and a family pump track during the week.

Henri Anthonioz, the mayor of Les Gets, one of 12 resorts in the Portes de Soleil region near Geneva, Switzerland, said, “We are delighted to welcome the European leg of the prestigious Crankworx World Tour. We pride ourselves on being great organizers and hosts. This event will be an exceptional feast for mountain biking fans with spectacular races in the heart of the village and a rich entertainment program.”

Tickets for Rotorua have already gone on sale.
