Cycling in the Comox Valley is on the rise, with some brand-new official support to prove it
Two local organizations have signed a memorandum of understanding to support the Comox Valley region's growing cycling prestige
If there’s anywhere in Canada that’s seeing cycling take off not just as a sport, but as an industry, it’s in the Comox Valley region on B.C.’s west coast — already a place known for its trails and ‘cross courses.

With some ambitious investments in the Vancouver Island cycling scene a couple of local organizations hope to take that further.
As reported this week by the Comox Valley Record, two key local organizations, Comox Valley Economic Development and Tourism and the Comox Valley Cycling Coalition, have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand both cycling events and cycling-related tourism in the area. The news comes on the heels of the Comox Valley Farm Cycle Tour’s sixth year being marked this fall — one of the events to receive some significant support going forward — along with other attention that the region has received in the global cycling press.

Other highlights of Comox Valley cycling to receive support, the Record reports, includes a collaboration between the organization to develop the Z Card Cycling Map, detailing the extent of local cycling routes and trails, and the Cross on Top of the Rock cyclocross competition.
According to the Record, one quote in particular stands out amongst the rest:
“That was the best mountain biking I have done in my life,” said a member of the media after being given a tour of the region’s mountain biking trails, “and the other guys are also stoked about the day.”
For locals, the Comox Valley Z Card Cycling Map is available free of charge at the Vancouver Island Visitors Centre, located at 3607 Small Road in Cumberland, B.C.
