Watch: Ambitions with Emily Batty, Part 8

Batty reflects on the outcome of the race in Rio and her preparations leading into the biggest event of the year

Emily Batty took a big step in her career in 2016. She won a bronze medal at the 2016 world championships in Nové Město na Moravě, Czech Republic. She won the Canadian national title and finished third overall in the World Cup overall standings when the series wrapped up in Vallnord, Andorra and was on the podium in multiple World Cup races.

A defining moment of the season was her fourth place finish at the Olympics. A strong race saw her in contention for a medal from the start. It was Sweden’s Jenny Rissveds who claimed the gold medal on the day outpacing Poland’s Maja WÅ‚oszczowska. Canada’ Catharine Pendrel had a sensational race after crashing and dealing with a mechanical early to claim the bronze medal. Batty came within meters of Pendrel in the final but the veteran Canadian and former two-time world champion would claim the bronze. So narrowly missing the medals left Batty with what she said after were mixed emotions.

In the latest of her Ambitions series, Batty goes over her Olympic preparations and talks about the outcome of the race in Rio.
