In a sunny field in eastern France, FDJ’s Francis Mourey rode away from Belgium’s Diether Sweeck to win the prestigious Cyclocross International de Nommay and avenge the French title he lost last week to Clément Lhotellerie. Mourey’s late attack came after a battle with Julien Taramarcaz of Switzerland, Sweeck and  Frenchman Fabien Doubey that lasted for most of the race. Inside three laps to go, Doubey dropped off the pace, then Taramarcaz fell back, leaving Mourey and Sweeck to fight it out. Finally, with one lap to go, Mourey put in a dig that that Sweeck couldn’t answer. The veteran Frenchman soaked in the home crowd’s adoration, finishing solo, 29 seconds ahead of Sweeck. Taramarcaz came in 54 seconds back to take third. Canada’s Aaron Schooler was 20th, 7:19 down.

Lucie Chainel-Lefèvre of France won the women’s race ahead of her compatriot Caroline Mani. Germany’s Lisa Heckmann was third.
