Fulcrum 2017 Speed T, Red Power HP and Red Passion 3 wheelsets

Fulcrum have announced that their top of the line tubular wheelset and two mountain bike wheelsets have received updates for 2017. Check out the 2017 versions of the Fulcrum Speed T, Power HD and Red Passion 3 below.

Speed T

Fulcrum recently added a clincher version of its top-end race wheelset, the Speed and have now updated their offerings for the tubular wheelset for 2017. Replacing the 35 mm and 50 mm profiles previously available, Fulcrum now will offer the Speed T in 40 mm and 55 mm versions. The rims have also been given a wider profile for aerodynamics and to accommodate the preference towards wider tire profiles.

Fulcrum say they choose to offer a 40 mm version because it’s versatility. A 40 mm profile allows for a light weight wheelset for when the road ramps up, is stiff for the sprints and aero to give performance advantages on the flats. The 55 mm set is more geared towards added aerodynamic advantages.

The Speed are now updated with a wider 24.2 mm profile that provides the platform for larger tire widths that are increasingly popular amoung top riders. The wider profile also make the rim stiffer without the need to add much more material.

Fulcrum use what they call MoMag construction to build a rim with the spoke holes already in place. They say this makes the rim sturdier and prevents the need to drill spoke holes which can compromise its structural integrity.

The hubs are carbon fiber with aluminum alloy flanges with oversized aluminum flanges on the drive side. The bearings are Cult ceramic and the wheelset weighs in at 1213 g.

Red Power HP

The Red Power HP is a lower range mountain bike wheelset that has also been updated with a wider 23c rim that measures 28.5 mm. Fulcrum say that the rim’s wider profile gives riders better handling, stability and comfort than last versions 19c rim.

The front and rear wheel feature 28 stainless steel straight pull spokes laced the aluminum hubs with alloy flanges. The wheelset is compatible with all standards and drivetrains without the need to change the axle. The wheelset is available in both a 29 and 27.5-inch version.

Red Passion 3

The Red Passion 3 offers cross country and XC marathon cyclists a wheelset that is offered at a more accessible price but provides dependable performance. The lightweight 21 mm wide and 20 mm tall rim is laced asymmetrically to compensate for the power transfer from the drivetrain and the forces of braking. The rim comes tubeless ready but is easily converted to be ridden with inner tubes.

Again, the rim is compatible with all standards using different adaptors including the Boost 148 standard which a separate version of this wheelset is available in. The freewheel bodies of the Red Passion 3 ae interchangeable but the wheelset is offered with either HG or XD drivers already installed.
