Fulcrum goes wider adding Racing Zero Competizione clincher

Fulcrum add to their high-end aluminum racing wheels lineup with a clincher for 25 and 28-mm tires

The fourth addition to the Racing Zero Fulcrum’s high-end aluminum racing wheels lineup, the Competizione have a wider profile for improved traction, comfort, cornering and potentially aerodynamic advantages with wider 25 and 28 mm tires.

While the Fulcrum Racing Zero models feature a 20.3-mm rim, the Competizione have the C17 rim with a 23-mm width. Paired with 25 or 28-mm tires, the profile is allegedly more aerodynamic because it creates a flatter profile with no turbulence and drag between the rim and tire. The wheels use aerodynamic oversized aluminum spokes and on the rear wheel have Fulcrums two to one spoke ratio with 21 spokes in total,  14 on the drive side. Constructing the wheel like this is intended to reduce torsion on the wheel under power during hard accelerations. An aluminium drive side hub flange makes the wheel stiffer as well.

Fulcrum use what they call MoMag construction to build the rims with the spoke holes already in place. They say this makes the rim sturdier and prevents the need to drill spoke holes which can compromise its structural integrity.

The wheels receive bearings that Fulcrum say spin nine times smoother than traditional bearings. The weight of a set of Competizione come in at 1510g featuring a micro turned braking surface.
