Gallery: Amazing Nino Schurter wins fifth consecutive World Cup at Mont-Sainte-Anne

World and Olympic champion unstoppable in 2017

Nino Schurter’s post-Olympic season has been nothing short of extraordinary. That continued on Sunday in Mont-Sainte-Anne where the Olympic gold medalist and world champion rode to his fifth cross country World Cup victory of the season etching his name in the history books as the first to win five World Cup rounds in the same season. It was his 25th career World Cup victory.

Schurter was locked in a tight battle in Monte-Sainte-Anne needing to hold off Frechman Stéphane Tempier who finished 10-seconds behind the rainbow jersey. Gerhard Kerschbaumer of Italy took the final step on the podium ahead of Titouan Carod of France.

Raphaël Gagné was the top Canadian in the men’s race finishing 34th.

Schurter will go six for six at the final round of the World Cup in Val di Sol before heading to Cairns, Australia for the world championships in September. Schurter won the world championship title in 2015 and 2016.
