Organizers were hard at work Thursday preparing Winnipeg’s Forks for the 2014 Canadian cyclocross championships. Top Canadian racers will vie for maple-leaf jerseys in their respective categories on Saturday. Before the racers can hit the course, many details have to be taken care of, including painting barriers pink.

The stakes are in for the 2014 Shimano Canadian cyclocross championships at Winnipeg's Forks. Later, tape was strung from stake to stake.
The barriers got a fresh coat of pink paint.
The course has a variety of surfaces: grass, sand, interlocking brick, dirt with crushed gravel and some pave. It looks like everything will be dry on race day, making for a fast course.
Shimano Canada is providing race support. Three gentlemen from Shimano hauled gear from Peterborough, Ont., to Winnipeg.
Shimano is also providing "heckling support" as their beer bike will likely fuel some spectators (and competitors who race early). The beer goes in the bucket. When the container is full, the bike can be quite difficult to steer. The shifting is Alfine Di2.
Lovely momentum-sapping sand.
And after the sand pit, a 90 degree turn, and stairs. Nasty.
