Former Canadian road national champion Guillaume Boivin of the Cycling Academy will miss the upcoming Tour of Alberta after suffering a knee injury in training. The 27-year-old native of Montreal had a mechanical during a sprint workout which resulted in him crashing and needing stitches to his right knee after suffering cuts from his 53-tooth chainring. Boivin missed the chance to defend his Canadian national road title when he suffered an injury to his shoulder at the GP Saguenay in June returning to the bike five weeks later in July.

The stitches are scheduled to be removed on August 27 making his participation in the Tour of Alberta which takes place fro September 2 to 7 nearly impossible. Boivin hopes that the injury will not jeopardize his participation in the GP Quebec and Montreal on September 9 and 11 respectively.
