Canada’s Olympic cycling team are putting the final touches on their preparations for the Rio Olympics. Antoine Duchesne just completed his first Tour de France which wrapped up on the Champs-Élysées on Sunday while a month ago Emily Batty took home a bronze medal at the cross country mountain bike world championships in Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech Republic. Closer to home BMXer Tory Nyhaug is training in Chula Vista, California while Tara Whitten just took the overall victory at the Cascade’s Cycling Classic.

Though their sports often take them around the world and they spent weeks away from home training and racing, each of Canada’s Olympic cyclists travel to Rio representing Canada but also their hometowns.

Calgary is the best-represented city with four of Canada’s cyclists calling it home. Close behind is Vancouver with three athletes. Of the 20 cyclists, seven are from the province of Quebec while the maritime provinces have no representatives though Hugo Barrette calls Îles de la Madeleine home which is in the middle of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.

While the map illustrates where the cyclists call home, many train elsewhere. Road cyclists who race on European professional teams like Hugo Houle and Antoine Duchesne share an apartment in Saint-Restitut, France where for much of the year they are based out of.
