On Tuesday, Maghalie Rochette spoke with Canadian Cycling Magazine about the 2014 Shimano Canadian cyclocross championships, her ‘cross season to date, cyclocross fever and Evan McNeely’s anti-knee warmer campaign.

“It’s been a good season to learn about how the race unfolds and how I should react,” Rochette said. The winner of The Night Weasels Cometh and runner-up at Day 2 of the UCI race at Ellison Park in Rochester, N.Y., said set still feels she has a lot to learn.

For the Canadian cyclocross championships, Rochette is looking forward to trying the course at Winnipeg’s The Forks. “It seems like it’s going to be a really fun and really challenging course,” she said. Her plan is to try to make the the most of the technical features and corners.

When asked about “cyclocross fever,” a hashtag she’s used on Twitter and a phrase that’s come up in interviews, Rochette said that she not only has it, but she’s working on a project related to her love of the muddy art. She didn’t have specific details, but it seems some product connected to a charity is in the works. The chat concluded with some discussion of Evan McNeely’s cheeky anti-knee warmer project. Rochette is pro knee warmer, but not dogmatic about it.
