On Tuesday, Simon Lambert-Lemay (Garneau-Quebecor) won the seventh round of the Mardi Lachine criterium series in Montreal. Coincidentally, it was also his birthday and perhaps the best gift came from his teammate and race series leader, Pierrick Naud who provided the perfect lead out. Naud was strong enough to take second place after setting up his teammate while last year’s series winner Jean-Francios Laroche (Fantino Mondello/Cycles Regis) rounded out the podium.

The wide open, four-corner course always encourages high speeds and aggressive racing. The sweltering heat that has hit Quebec certainly played a role in the dynamic of the race. The course record is 58:52. On Tuesday night, the time was only slightly slower in 40 C heat at 1:00:32, the speed high for the conditions.

Garneau-Quebecor currently dominates the upper portion of the Mardi Lachine overall classification. Pierrick Naud continues to lead the series overall with 718 points, while Lambert-Lemay remains in second with 677 points. Last year’s winner, Francios Laroche, currently sits third with 592 points.

There are three rounds still to come. Naud’s hold on first is certainly not secure. Each remaining race could drastically change the overall classification despite Garneau-Quebecor’s strong grip. Race results of all categories and other classifications can be found on the Mardi Lachine website.
