Canadian road cyclist Lex Albrecht is excited to compete at her home event, the Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau, this weekend, in both the chrono and the road race.

Fresh from a second place finish at the Philly Cycling Classic last weekend with her Twenty16 teammates, Albrecht is coming into Gatineau having targeted this race as a priority for the 2014 season.

“Gatineau is a special event,” said Albrecht. “It’s a big race for me and it is so close to home, so it’s very special.”

However, Albrecht won’t have the Twenty16 roster to support her efforts. The team isn’t attending the Gatineau races, but Albrecht’s home province of Quebec has stepped in to field a team.

“It means so much to me that I’ll have a team to race with when I get to Gatineau,” said Albrecht. “There’s a mix of experience for sure. Audrey Lemieux will be part of the team. She was on fire when I was starting in 2009, so it’s great to have her on the team.

“Karol-Ann Canuel was supposed to race with us, but is recovering from a crash in Philly.”

Albrecht has been working on her time trial position with Twenty16, and is excited to try out some new techniques during the chrono event, before riding with the Quebec team in the road race.
