Maghalie Rochette second, Pendrel fourth in first day of Cincy3

Maghalie Rochette

Maghalie Rochette won the silver in last week’s Shimano Canadian cyclocross championships and she followed that it up Friday by placing second in the first, rainy day of the Cincy3 event in Harbin Park, Farfield, Ohio. Rochette came runner-up to Czech teammate Katerina Nash, who defended her title, while another Luna rider, Canadian champion Catharine Pendrel was fourth. In the men’s race American Danny Summerhill (K-Edge/Felt) prevailed with Canadian Geoff Kabush (Scott-3Rox) placing eighth.

Nash took the hole shot and the Czech and Canadian separated themselves from the rest on the first lap. Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro) was locked in a fine battle for third with Kaitlin Antonneau (USA/Cannondale) and another Luna rider Georgia Gould (USA). The Luna riders hit Antonneau with a one-two punch but the Cannondale rider snagged the final podium spot.

In the men’s race, it was Kabush taking the hole shot but he couldn’t prevent Summerhill from grabbing the reins on lap one and never letting go. Justin Lindine (USA/Redline) and Todd Wells (Specialized) were Summerhill’s closest pursuers until James Driscoll (USA/Raleigh) caught and dispatched them to come second to the rampaging Summerhill. Lindine outfought Driscoll’s Belgian teammate Ben Berden for third.

Cincy3 continues Saturday in Kingswood Park, Mason, Ohio with the Kings After Dark race and Sunday with the Pan-American cyclocross championships in Devou Park, Covington, Kentucky.
