RBC GranFondo Whistler cyclists will begin on car-free roads

GranFondo Canada series ends in Whistler on September 8.

RBC GranFondo Whistler will end the season of mass-start group rides hosted by GranFondo Canada on September 8 along the Sea to Sky Highway from Vancouver to Whistler.

This year’s event offers riders a car-free opening to the 122 km route. Cyclists will start through Stanley Park in Vancouver and travel over the Lions Gate Bridge. They will veer onto a car-free Taylor Highway and ride toward Upper Levels Highway. Riders will continue to ride on closed roads on the Upper Levels Trans-Canada Highway.

“We have worked extensively to further enhance the rider experience. These important modifications will appeal to new registrants, while providing a fresh experience for veteran participants of the event” said Kevin Thomson, co-founder GranFondo Canada. “No other event in North America provides such a unique experience.”

GranFondo Canada hosts three events beginning with RBC GranFondo Kelowna on July 14, RBC GranFondo Banff on August 25 and the RBC GranFondo Whistler on September 8. In 2013, GranFondo Canada is expected to host the first GranFondo Niagara Falls in Ontario.
