This morning, Cannondale-Garmin Pro Cycling announced the latest addition to its 2016 roster.

Starting next season, Rigoberto Uran will be riding in Cannondale-Garmin colours, joining other riders like Canada’s Michael Woods and France’s Pierre Rolland who have already made similar announcements. It’s another example of Garmin scooping up the top talent on two wheels, putting together a solid, strong squad of riders for the competition of 2016. Uran, to anyone who has been following the Colombian rider’s last few seasons, definitely fits that description.

In 2012, Uran took silver at that year’s Olympics in the road race, while also taking a seventh-overall finish and the white jersey of that year’s Giro d’Italia as the best young rider. Also at the Giro d’Italia, Uran made two second overall finishes in 2013 and 2014, as well as stage wins at those competitions. This year, Uran was Colombia’s 2015 National Time Trial champion. He also took a third-overall finish at the 2015 Tirreno-Adriatico.

It’s more than just Uran’s demonstrated power on the road that makes “Rigo,” as he’s known, Cannondale-Garmin’s pick for 2016, though.

“Rigo is a leader not just for his excellent skills on the road,” said Cannondale-Garmin Pro Cycling CEO Jonathan Vaughters, “but for his charisma.  He brings style and passion to racing and he will be a huge asset to the team. Rigo has one more step to climb in the Giro and I will put my heart into helping make that happen. We are very excited to add him to our 2016 lineup.”

Uran’s addition to the team continues  the season of shakeup that marks the end of summer in the cycling world, with Canada’s Ryder Hesjedal, it was recently announced, making a move in the opposite direction. Beginning in 2016, the legendary rider will be suiting up for Trek Factory Racing.
