When you’re shopping for your next lid you may find the options a little overwhelming. New helmets are constantly being released with increased emphasis on aero, air flow and safety. Along with some of these features come departures from more traditional appearances for new helmets. Innovative, high-tech designs don’t suit everybody’s needs and Scott’s Vanish 2 is a great looking helmet that’ll keep your head well protected and cool on hot days.

The Vanish 2 has 24 vents that will allow plenty of heat to escape from your head. The helmet is made with inner channels to move air across the top of your head to keep it cool on hot summer days or when climbing. Airflow through the channeling is well suited for hot days but not excessive.

The helmet is constructed from EPS foam featuring their Conehead technology which means it is molded in two parts with two different densities. Scott says that this construction disperses the force of an impact laterally through the higher density foam on the outer layer of the helmet. The softer foam closer to the head is designed to compress absorbing the shock and reducing the G-force experienced.

MRAS 2 retention system works well and can be adjusted to three different heights to make sure it securely holds your head in place. The wheel is easy to rotate with one hand for when you need to make slight adjustments on the fly. The inner lining pads also felt light, and  the chin strap was comfortable and easily adjustable. I really liked that the strap was looped instead of leaving two loose ends to dangle freely when it was tightened up around my chin. It is an effective, lightweight and comfortable system.

The helmet came with a reflective and discrete sticker that can be placed on the back of the helmet for increased visibility at night. The company says the helmet weighs in at 220-g for the small and 270-go for a medium.

You’ll want to try this helmet on before making the purchase. The size small I tried was very comfortable but not everyone will necessarily find the fit to their liking. The front of the helmet felt a little narrow for my head that almost completely filled the helmet’s shell.

The helmet is also good value and is available for $190.
