Simpson dominates at Forest City Velodrome’s Speed Pro Night

Bailey Simpson laid down an impressive performance on Saturday at the Forest City Velodrome in London, Ont. The Ontario Junior, racing for the Kallisto-FCV Cycling Team, secured gold across all three Elite Division events.

He lapped the field early on during the points race to claim his first win of the night. The race intensified for the remaining riders over the last 10 laps as a four-man break consisting of Cam Mason, Lucas Taylor, Daniel Nesbitt and Chris Ernst battled for second. A difference of only five points separated second through fifth position with Mason and Taylor taking the silver and bronze, respectively.

Simpson’s second gold came in the miss and out with Taylor finishing second and NCCH’s Paul Beit in third place.

During the 10-km scratch race, teammates Simpson and Taylor lapped the field and took the race down to the final sprint where Simpson claimed a narrow victory by crossing the line a half wheel ahead of Taylor. Beit finished in third once more.

In total, 47 racers competed in three divisions of points, miss and out and 10-km Scratch races, in a men’s and women’s sprint tournament and a men’s madison.

Many of the youth racers were preparing for the FCV Youth Championships presented by MEC on January 1.
