Trek Factory Racing seeks to be competitive across mountain bike disciplines

Emily Batty leads cross-country squad

Trek Factory Racing hope that this coming season, it’s team can be competitive across the disciplines in mountain bike events on the international stage. In an effort to solidify their roster for its downhill, cross-country and enduro mountain bike teams for the coming season and the program moving forward, the 2017 roster consists of proven returning athletes and promising up-and-comers.

Canadian Olympian Emily Batty of Brooklin, Ont. who finished four in Rio, took home a bronze medal from the world championships and was third in the overall World Cup standings in 2016 will lead the team in the cross country discipline. Joining Batty in XC will be Spaniard Sergio Mantecon who returns to the team after spending much of 2016 injured and 2012 junior and 2015 under-23 world champion Anton Cooper of New Zealand.

“Things have come full circle since I became the junior world champion in 2012 whilst piloting a Trek,” said Cooper, “and I’m really looking forward to being back on board with the brand in 2017. Trek gave me my first opportunity as a professional rider at just 17, and it feels just as exciting for me to link up with the brand as it did back then.”

The Trek Factory Racing Downhill squad is anchored by Rachel Atherton who had an absolutely dominant season during which she won every round of the World Cup and took her fourth world championship title. She will look to extend her 10 World Cup round winning streak which stretches back to 2015 going in this season. Her siblings Gee and Dan also return to the 2017 squad with a focus on the downhill World Cups but will also participate in the Red Bull events. More information on the roster is expected in the coming weeks.

Canada’s Casey Brown and Scotland’s Katy Winton joined the enduro team in 2016 and return for the coming season. Brown earned several podium positions in Enduro World Series races and Winton was often positioned in the top-10. The pair will be joined by new recruit Lewis Buchanan of Scotland who is coming off a season plagued by injury.

“Signing with Trek Factory Racing is a great opportunity that I could not pass up,” said Buchanan. “To be part of the team is a dream, and to be on such awesome equipment is a major confidence booster. I look forward to the season ahead and getting racing underway in new colors.”
