Video: Peter Disera looks back on a successful season

On Saturday, Peter Disera, mountain biker (and cyclocrosser and time triallist and more) won the XC male athlete of the year award at the Ontario Cycling Association’s awards night.

Disera spoke of some of his highlights from the 2013 season, which include a win at Mont-Sainte-Anne’s XC World Cup race in August and silver at the junior world mountain bike championships in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. “That was something to say the least,” Disera said. “It was a very exciting race to begin with: one of the best races I’ve actually ever been a part of, and a fantastic result.”

Now, Disera is a busy first year student at the University of Guelph studying water resource engineering. He did, however, stay on two-wheels on weekends, competing in the province’s cyclocross races. (He picked up the provincial under-23 championship title earlier this month.) His nemesis on the muddy courses was Andrew Watson. The two often traded good-natured taunts on Twitter.

For 2014, Disera is preparing for the XC World Cups circuit as an under-23 racer. He wants to do well at nationals and hopes to go to the world championships.
