5,042 riders raise over $20 million dollars for Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation

The Ontario Ride to Conquer Cancer celebrated its 10th anniversary with it’s biggest ride yet. Over 5,000 riders gathered in Toronto to make the 200 km journey from Canada’s biggest city to Niagara Falls over two days. Some of those riders were cancer survivors others have been intimately touched by the disease as it affects friends and loved ones. Regardless of what brought them there, they all had a story to tell and a determination to make the ride a success.

Their efforts helped raise $20,533,000 for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. “Cancer touches so many people, about 40 per cent of Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Almost every family, sadly, has a cancer story,” Paul Alofs the president and CEO of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation told the Toronto Star. “And you know, $20 million is absolutely transformational for Princess Margaret and the work that we do.”

Over the events 10 years, $175 million has been raised by participants and national the ride has raised $359 million to-date.

Riders gathered at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre on Saturday to celebrate the 10th edition. Riders then cycled to Exhibition Place for the opening ceremony before beginning the ride towards Niagara Falls.
