Pacific Cycling Centre accepting applications for development program

The Pacific Cycling Centre is accepting applications for its 2014-15 development program.

For the 2014-15 season, PCC will identify men and women in the under-17, under-19 and under-23 categories who have the potential to progress to the elite level. It will consider road, track and mountain biking disciplines. Ultimately, the goal of the program will be to channel these athletes into mational team programs.

Training will be based on long term athletic development (LTAD) at the learn-to-train, train-to-train, and train-to-compete levels.

“Having a full development program that includes coaching, racing, and equipment creates a very exciting opportunity for Canadian cyclists,” says PCC head coach, Houshang Amiri. “In past few years, most of sport funding has gone to the top elite level. We were desperate to have a program like this to support future Canadian champions systematically and continuously based on the LTAD model.”

The PCC’s goal is to create a high-performance training group consisting of national team and pre national team athletes. The athletes will have access to the highest quality coaching while in a peer group setting. The athletes will have access to regular training camps, physiological testing, mentorship with Olympians and in particular cases support at races.

The PPC will start the 2015 season off with supervised group rides on Saturdays and Sundays starting Saturday Nov. 1. These will be coached rides where the riders will be able to work on the various aspects of riding, all the while working on endurance and boosting aerobic capacity. Along with the group rides, starting Nov. 7, riders will meet for a weekly indoor gym dynamic-strength session, where they will work on flexibility, core strength and eventually progress to developing power and anaerobic capacity.

The deadline for applications is Nov. 3. Send race CV and cover letter to info@pacificcyclingcenter.ca
