Shimano Gran Fondo takes to the roads on Aug. 28

The event will take to the scenic roads of the Peterborough and the Kawarthas region.

The inaugural edition of the Shimano Gran Fondo will debut on Aug. 28. The event will take to the roads of the Peterborough and the Kawarthas region leaving from Shimano Canada’s headquarters. In 2015, Shimano Canada and the Peterborough and the Kawarthas Tourism Division launched a partnership to identify and mark with street signs cycling friendly roads. The Shimano Gran Fondo will use these roads for the event.

As part of the initiative, 160 signs have been installed throughout the County of Peterborough. The region features rolling hills, scenic lakes and winding rural roads that make for a diverse and challenging riding experience.

There are 150 spots open for registration in the Shimano Gran Fondo and participants have two ride options to choose from. The medio fondo features a 115-km course and there is the 150-km gran fondo course. With an event of this size, participants can expect a more personal experience as the ride is intended to be a grassroots event with riding group sizes of around 15 to 20. Each group will have a follow vehicle, will be led by a ride marshal and there will be pacing suitable to all abilities.

Along the course, there will be checkpoints for the groups to stop at. Following the ride, a catered lunch will be provided. For registration and for more information visit fretori.com.
