Watch Brandon Semenuk’s insane 2016 Red Bull Rampage winning run

Canadian nails some huge tricks in smooth run with huge style and flare

You have to go back to 2008 for the last time Canadian Brandon Semenuk won Red Bull Rampage but he reclaimed the title with a daring run on Friday, Oct. 14 in the annual freeride mountain bike competition. Competitors take daring risks doing massive drops and pulling off stunning tricks with the desert as the backdrop.

The competition began in 2001 and is now held near Zion National Park in Virgin, Utah. Semenuk’s insane run, hurtling down some very exposed trail featured some huge backflips and an incredible flatspin 360 on the biggest jump of his run. Starting the run with a double drop on some gnarly exposed trail, Semenuk set himself up for some clean moves before rolling into the finish. He followed that up with the flatspin 360 backflip and then a one footed can-can backflip. His flow, daring and style are all notably apparent and earned him a score of 84.33 which was enough to push Frenchman Antoine Bizet into second.

Bizet’s run was also something to behold, nailing a double backflip which he failed to land in 2015 at the same competition. It’s the first time in Rampage history that trick is completed. Bizet also took some aggressive lines but it wasn’t enough to claim the title.

Semenuk also won the People’s Choice award in the competition which featured US$200,000 in prize money. Last year, despite an incredibly smooth run, Semenuk was only awarded fourth, a slight controversy in the world of freesride mountain biking.
