Janez Brajkovic bolsters UnitedHealthcare

Slovenian rider Janez Brajkovic has swapped the WorldTour team Astana for the American pro continental squad UnitedHealthcare, heading back to an American outfit after three years with the Kazakhs. Brajkovic rode for Discovery and Radioshack with Lance Armstrong early in his career and has signed on with UnitedHealthcare for two seasons.

The 30-year-old Brajkovic placed ninth in the 2009 Tour de France, but to date his greatest results have been a win in the 2010 Critérium du Dauphiné and the world under-23 time trial title of 2004. His 2014 was marked by allergy problems and a broken left elbow and hand suffered in the Giro d’Italia. He finished on the Vuelta a Burgos podium with winner Nairo Quintana (Colombia/Movistar) and Daniel Moreno (Spain/Katusha).

UnitedHealthcare has aspirations to ride the Giro d’Italia and to improve its standing in the UCI America Tour after coming sixth in the team rankings this season. Their top ranked rider was American Kiel Reijnen, who triumphed in the Philadelphia Cycling Classic for the second consecutive year and placed 77th in Milan-San Remo. UnitedHealthcare has also signed Italians Alessandro Bazzana and Danielo Ratto for the 2015 season.
