POC unveils AVIP MIPS

PocBucketsLast Thursday, Sweden’s POC Sports unveiled their new partnership with MIPS as they unveiled their new Octal road helmet for 2015. MIPS is a technology that is designed to reduce the rotational violence during crashes thus reducing the severity and frequency of concussions. Other features on POC’s 2015 Octal road helmet include the new Eye Park, which according the company’s press release is patent pending and was developed with the Garmin-Sharp WorldTour team.

POC claims that their Octal road helmet provides more cranial coverage as compared to other helmet brands, in particular around the temple. With adequate venting and the addition of MIPS technology and an EPS liner, the helmet is designed to be thicker in areas most vulnerable to impact. Other proprietary technologies include a unibody shell construction which is said to improve the construction integrity of the helmet while ensuring the helmet remains light weight.

POC will also continue onward with the high visibility colouring, with more colours to be unveiled for 2015. The helmets will also come with a reflective sticker kit and ICE tag for the rider’s emergency information that could be used by emergency personal  if a cyclist is unconscious from a crash.

The new Octal road helmets were used for the first time during the second stage of the Vuelta a Espana.  Complete information can be found at POC Sports.
