Trek unveils new carbon Slash

Slash_98_27_5Designed for the “160mm enduro specialist,” Trek’s Carbon Slash enduro mountain bike has been reworked for 2015. Available for next year will be a completely new OCLV Mountain Carbon Frame with RockShox’s new Monarch Plus DebonAir shock.

According to Trek, the frame is lighter and more responsive with the OCLV Mountain Carbon. Compared to the aluminum frame, the Carbon Slash is 627grams lighter. Other features include internal derailleur and dropper post routing. There is also an E2 tapered head tube, Carbon Armor, ISCG mounts, and Mino Link adjustable geometry.  The final component of the design includes a clean integration with Shimano’s new XTR Di2 system with Di2-specfic frame plugs.

The RockShox Monarch DebonAir is a another key component of the bike as the new design is meant for the rigours of enduro racing. Effectively the design inhibits heat buildup on long technical descents when the suspension is in a constant state of flux. Trek’s proprietary Active Braking Pivot and Full Floater is said to ensure that the bike handles better and inspires confidence.

The frame and bike has been tested by Trek Factory racing’s sponsored athletes with great success.

The Slash will be available in early October 2014 in four distinct models; two carbon models and two aluminum options – all of which will include the RockShox Monarch DebonAir shock.
