Sven Nys gives fans a thrill in exhibition race ahead of the Waterloo Cyclo-cross World Cup

Cyclocross legend Sven Nys has had many rivals throughout his storied career. He’s gone head-to-head with everyone from Bart Wellens to Mathieu van der Poel, national to world champions. But at the Trek CX Cup Legends Race on Friday, the Cannibal of Baal faced a new challenge, American costume cyclocross racers. Nys took part in a fun exhibition race open to all where costumes were encouraged, giving fans a show and a thrill at seeing the legend.

The race drew an large field of varying abilities, from semi serious to not at all serious, and an impressive array of costumes. Though some costumes that probably seemed hilarious when conceived, was decidedly less so in the 33 degrees heat. Regardless, everyone had a good time.

Aside from Nys and the costumed racers, the race was heavily populated with Trek employees, and even American mountain bike legend Gary Fisher himself. A few Canucks even snuck into the race.
