Canada’s young U23 riders had an impressive showing today in Germany, moving up through a massive field of 151 riders in muddy, rain slicked conditions at the Albstadt UCI World Cup. Sean Fincham, racing for Team Canada and Forward Racing, had the top Canadian finish on Saturday, moving all the way up to 21st from his position of 41st on the start grid when the race started.

Not far behind Fincham, Marc-Andre Fortier (Pivot OTE) finished in 24th, with his teammate Rahael Auclair moving all the way from 56th at the start to finish 30th on Saturday. Just three seconds later, Norco Facotry Racing’s Quinton Disera crossed the line in 31st.

First year U23 Gunnar Holmgren (Team Canada) had a great day in Albstadt, moving all the way from near the back of the start grid in 124th to finish 63rd in Germany. Pivot OTE’s Félix Belhumeur was next, and placed 76th, up from a starting position of 76th. Starting at the very back of the field, riders without UCI points are called up at random, Brody Sanderson moved form 146th to finish 114th at the slippery Albstadt U23 World Cup round.

With nearly 150 riders all sprinting for that first section of singletrack, the young Canadians had their work cut out for them to avoid crashes and try move up through the huge field of racers.

U23 Women’s results have yet to be posted, and will be updated when available.
