Devinci heading into a new season with Canadian racing crew

Doubling down with two DH national champs, plenty of homegrown talent

Devinci Cycles is bringing together some of the best gravity riders across the country under one program for the 2018 season. From downhill to enduro and freeride, the Chicoutimi, Que. brand will apply its 30 years of experience designing and building bikes to supporting Canadians achieve their best. Devinci say the program is a tribute to Steve Smith, the Canadian downhill racer who inspired racers across the country, and who’s Legacy Fun continues to help support the next generation of gravity racers reach the podium.

Reigning Canadian national downhill champion, Kirk McDowall will be joined on the DH circuit by past national champion, Matt Beer, who will also be racing enduro events this year. In Eastern Canada, Rachel Pageau will be joined by John Lefrançois and Hugo Langevin on the newly formed Devinci Development Racing (DDR) team. Outside the course tape, Devinci will continue to sponsor Canadian freerider Kenny Smith.

Kirk McDowall will be rolling into 2018 on the momentum of an impressive 12th place finish at 2017 Mont-Sainte-Anne World Cup. The defending 2016 and 2017 national champion, co-sponsored by Devinci and Dunbar Cycles, will be looking to defend his title in the upcoming season, as well as taking on the world’s best as select World Cup events, Crankworx, and Canadian DH events.

Joining McDowall at select downhill events will be Matthew Beer, who will also be challenging at nationals, looking to regain the title he held earned in 2012 and 2015. Beer, born in Newfoundland but residing out west, will also be riding his Devinci Spartan at the Canadian National Enduro Series and select EWS rounds.

The Devinci Development Racing team is new for the upcoming season, and will be led by Rachel Pageau. Pageau will be taking on five of eight EWS rounds as well as North American Enduro Continental Series events in addition to defending her Enduro and Downhill Eastern States Cup Series titles from 2017.

Bromont native Hugo Langevin will be representing the DDR at five of this year’s World Cup DH stops, as well as at the Canada Cup series domestically. Langevin will be joined on the Canada Cup circuit by reigning Elite series champion, John Lefrançois, who also took the Quebec Cup series title last year.

Outside of the race scene, Devinci will continue its partnership with Canadian freeride Kenny Smith. Smith will be contributing to Devinci media projects as he continues to use his smooth style and creative riding to push what is possible on a bike.
