Five Canadian juniors in top-5 in Andorra World Cup downhill

It was a huge day for Canada’s juniors in Andorra on Saturday, with five Canadians in the top-five. Jackson Goldstone leads with his third win of 2022. Gracey Hemstreet was second in junior women. Tegan Cruz finds his first World Cup podium of 2022 in third. Bodhi Kuhn in fourth and Tristan Lemire in fifth add to a stellar weekend in Vallnord.

Junior Men: Canada owns Vallnord

Jackson Goldstone (Syndicate) continues his stellar 2022 season with his third World Cup win of the year. Canada’s junior world champion opened the season with a victory in Lourdes, France. After two silvers, the Squamish, B.C. racer returned to the top step last week in Lenzerheide.

This week, Goldstone was joined on the box by Tegan Cruz. The RockShox Trek racer was third, behind Jordan Williams (Madison-Saracen). It’s the young Pemberton, B.C. racer’s first World Cup podium in his first year on the circuit.

Bodhi Kuhn (Rossland, B.C.) and Tristan Lemire (Commencal/Muc-Off) followed close behind in fourth and fifth. That makes four Canadians in the top-five in the junior men’s race.

Wei Tien Ho (Whistler,B.C.) was riding inside the top-10 until the bottom of the Andorra track. Whatever happened there put the Whistler rider back to 23rd. Elijah Barron (Gravity MTB) squeezes inside the top-20 with an 18th-place finish.

Hemstreet holds on to the overall lead

Gracey Hemstreet’s (Norco Factory Team) season-long battle with Phoebe Gale (Canyon CllctvFMD) continued to another location. This time Gale takes the “W” by a solid 5.993 seconds.

Hemstreet followed in second. The Canadian still holds the World Cup leader’s jersey with 275 points, but Gale’s win cuts the Canadian’s advantage to just five points.

Fernie, B.C.’s Joy Atalla added a 13th to the Canadian results.

World Cup racing returns to North America next. Snowshoe, W.Va hosts on July 19-31 before the iconic Mont-Sainte-Anne World Cup returns on Aug 5-7, 2022.
