Canadian cross country racing team Forward Racing-Norco announced that it will be expanding it’s Forward Racing Development Fund for 2018. The addition of an award specifically for an athlete from the Atlantic Provinces means there will now be three awards total on offer for this year.

The Forward Racing Development Fund was launched in 2017 to support two young athletes with aspirations to race at the top levels of cross country mountain biking and, following a successful fundraising event at Patagonia Halifax and increased support from team sponsor Custom Clean Atlantic, will expand to support a third athlete for 2018.

Forward Racing-Norco is offering three $750 awards to athletes racing in the Junior and U23 categories. Application’s are open now, and will be accepted until 2 July 2018. Athletes thinking of applying must be planning to attend Canadian cross country national championships in Canmore, Alta. this year, and be planning to attend a post secondary education program. Full details on Forward Racing Development Fund and the application process can be found at Forward Racing-Norco’s website.

Forward Racing-Norco is an athlete-run team founded by Andrew L’Esperance and Evan McNeely to pursue their ambitions on the World Cup scene. Following McNeely’s retirement from racing, Squamish’s Sean Fincham was added to the team roster. The Development Fund is intended to continue the process of generosity and support that Forward Racing’s athletes have benefited from throughout their own careers.

The expanded Development Fund focuses on growing Atlantic Canada scene, where L’Esperance started his own mountain bike racing career. L’Esperance and Forward Racing will have the opportunity to race in the team’s home province later this summer when Kentville, N.S. hosts the final Canada Cup XCO round of 2018.
