‘Behind the Tape’ with Jenn Jackson

Oro Medonte, Ont. athlete talks about finding balance as a competitive athlete

Jenn Jackson AWI Racing

Jenn Jackson burst onto the cross country mountain bike scene in 2017 when, despite a more relaxed approach to racing, she won that year’s under-23 XCO national championship title.

In Behind the Tape, Jackson gives her perspective on how she transitioned from an international level cross country ski racer into mountain biking. She also talks about her mindset for training, racing and goals in her new off-road focus.

While Jackson describes herself as a “lifestyle athlete,” watching Behind the Tape reveals that the description means something different to the AWI Racing mountain biker than it might for others. It could also be part of the key to her success.

What defines success for Jackson is still being developed, but the young XCO racer has her sights set high. With some solid international results under her belt in cyclocross and World Cup cross country mountain biking, she would like to win an elite national championships, some day.

Oro Mendonte, Ont. rider will have her an opportunity to chase the maple leaf national champion jersey close to home this summer. XCO national championships return to Hardwood Ski & Bike, Jackson’s local trails, on July 20-21, 2019.
