Canadian Under-23 national champion Sean Fincham took advantage of muddy conditions to finish 17th at technical World Cup finals round in La Bresse, France.

The demanding course and challenging conditions would have been familiar for the Forward Racing-Norco rider, who calls the wet costal forests of Squamish, B.C. home. Fincham’s 17th in La Bresse wraps up a breakthrough World Cup season for the young Canadian. He scored his best ever World Cup result with a 10th at home at Mont-Sainte-Anne. That result came shortly after defending his national championship title in Canmore, Alberta. A dominant performance there saw him ride through most of the Elite Men’s field on his way to a second U23 maple leaf jersey.

Quinton Disera was the only other Canadian racing U23’s in La Bresse. Norco Facotry Team’s younger Disera brother finished 51st in France. His older brother, Peter, raced Elite later the same day.

Fincham’s result puts him in 26th overall in the World Cup standings, having missed the opening round in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Marc Andre Fortier (Pivot Cycles-OTE) ends the season in 31st, and Disera in 32nd overall.

Peter Fagerhaug of Norway won the U23 Men’s race. The win clinched the U23 World Cup title for the Norwegian, ahead of Jushua Dubau in second and Fillipo Colombo in third overall.

Sina Frei once again led Evie Richards in the Under-23 Women’s race. That win earns Frei the World Cup title, ahead of Malene Degn (Denmark) in second and Richards in third. Frei will have her hands full defending her world championship title at Lenzerheide in two weeks though. While she will be racing on home turf in Switzerland, she will also have to contend with Alessandra Keller. Keller has been racing with the Elites all year, finishing fifth in La Bresse, but must race her age category at worlds.
