NIMBY Fifty finished it’s 9th year of technical XC marathon racing in Pemberton, B.C. over the weekend and, for the fifth time, Mical Dyck raced her way onto the top step of the podium claiming the event’s $1,000 prize purse. What bike do you ride for a course that has 1,400 m of elevation gain over 37km but also sends racers down rocky, steep Pemberton classics like Overnight Sensation and No Err? Here’s a closer look at Dyck’s race winning Juliana Joplin CC.

On the trail to a winning time of 2:45:32, Juliana’s 110 mm travel Joplin CC had to get Dyck to the top of the infamous 101 switchbacks of the main Nimby climb, which organizers extended up “Middle Earth” this year for a continuous 800 m climb. The bike also had to survive Dyck’s pace down the 20 minute descent that followed, culminating in the Dissent Down Time: a mid-race timed downhill on Overnight Sensation that she set the fourth fastest Women’s time on, just 3 seconds off second place in the DDT race.

Mical Dyck’s coral coloured Juliana Joplin is the “CC” version of the XC frame, which uses a higher grade carbon to shed valuable grams without sacrificing strength or ride quality. The frames 110 mm of rear travel arrives via Fox’s Kashima coated Float Factory DPS shock, which Dyck has paired with a 120 mm Fox 32 fork. Wheels are Santa Cruz Reserve Carbon hoops, which come with a lifetime guarantee, and Shimano XTR components fill out the build.
