Mountain biker dies riding at Blue Mountain Resort

Incident occurred on an intermediate-ranked trail at the Ontario resort

A rider has died from injuries sustained mountain biking at Blue Mountain Resort, according to the Collingwood, Ont., and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.

Paramedics and the OPP were called to Blue Mountain Resort at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 7, responding to a rider with serious injuries resulting from a crash.

The injured rider had been riding on Embryo Trail, reports Orillia Matters. The trail is a blue, or intermediate-rated trail.

According to the preliminary investigation, the male rider appears to have lost control, left the trail and collided with a tree.

The rider was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Jackie Paduano, a spokesperson for Blue Mountain Resort, told Orillia Matters that it was the first mountain bike fatality on an intermediate trail at Blue Mountain.

“We will be investigating closely and taking any necessary steps to prevent a recurrence,” said Paduano. “The trail is currently closed and will remain so while the investigation continues.”
